Costco Coaticook Cheese Recalled Over Listeria Risk
What Happened
On August 4, 2026, Costco Canada posted an important recall notice for two Laiterie Coaticook cheese products: Coaticook Cheese Curds 600 g and Coaticook Cheddar Cheese Block 640 g (2 × 320 g). Coaticook is recalling certain best-before dates of these products due to the potential presence of Listeria. According to the Costco notice, the affected products were purchased at the Costco warehouse in Sherbrooke, QC on July 23, 2026.
The Costco notice follows a broader recall issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on August 3, 2026 (Recall ID RA-82436, Class 1), covering 33 Coaticook brand white cheddar products distributed in Quebec. The recall was triggered by the company, and there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
How to Identify the Product

Check the front of the package for the Coaticook logo, then match the size, UPC, and the codes printed on the packaging. Both affected products carry the code "À réfrigérer après le 24JL26" alongside their best-before date:

Why Listeria Is Serious
According to the CFIA, food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
What Should You Do
- Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled products.
- Check whether you have the recalled products — match the item number, UPC, and best-before date above.
- Throw the product out, or return the impacted products at a Costco warehouse to obtain a full refund.
- If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider.
