Costco Baby Formula Recalled Over Cereulide Toxin

YepSavingsYepSavings Team

What Happened

On February 22, 2026, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning for Kendamil Infant Formula with Whole Milk due to the potential presence of cereulide toxin. Costco Canada followed up with a member notice on February 25, 2026. The affected formula was sold exclusively through Costco warehouses, Costco Business Centres, and costco.ca across Canada between June 2025 and February 2026.

The recall is related to ARA oil (arachidonic acid) used in the affected products, which may contain cereulide toxin.

This recall (CFIA ID: RA-81636, Class 2) was triggered by a recall in another country. No illnesses have been reported associated with the consumption of this product, but the CFIA has launched a food safety investigation that may lead to additional product recalls.

How to Identify the Product

Kendamil Infant Formula with Whole Milk

What Is Cereulide and Why Is It Dangerous

Cereulide is a toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus bacteria. According to the CFIA, cereulide is highly heat stable — it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking or when preparing infant formula for consumption. In other words, mixing the powder with hot water will not make the formula safe.

The CFIA notes that symptoms typically begin rapidly after ingestion and most often involve gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

  5. Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled product.

Finding a Replacement Formula

If you were using Kendamil as your baby's primary formula, speak with your pediatrician or family doctor about suitable alternatives. Switching formulas abruptly can sometimes cause temporary digestive discomfort in infants, so professional guidance is recommended.
